Ireland will soon begin their search for a new defensive coach following the news Mike Ford is to step down in November.
Ford - a member of the Lions backroom staff for the summer tour to New Zealand - is to take up a full-time position with Premiership outfit Saracens following the completion of Irelands Autumn Tests.
The former Great Britain rugby league star was appointed Saracens skills and defence coach earlier this season and combined the role with his international duties, but has now opted for a full-time switch.
Ireland coach Eddie OSullivan said: Mike has been an asset to the team since joining the Irish squad in January 2002.
He has been thoroughly professional in his coaching and has contributed enormously to our recent success.
Our defensive record has continually improved throughout his tenure. I wish him the very best in his new position.
