Corry handed top PRA honour
12 May 2005, 9:23 am
England forward Martin Corry completed a notable awards double when he was named PRA players' player of the year.
Corrys latest success comes just a week after he was named Premiership player of the season.

He was the runaway winner in a poll of fellow players, and accepted his award at the Professional Rugby Players Association gala dinner in central London.

I am extremely humbled that they have given me this award, said Corry, who was nominated alongside his Leicester colleague Andy Goode, Worcester skipper Pat Sanderson and the Sale Sharks pair of Mark Cueto and Sebastien Chabal.

Corry, England captain against RBS 6 Nations opponents Italy and Scotland this season, has been suspended for the past three weeks, but he is set to return in Saturdays Premiership title showdown between Leicester and Wasps at Twickenham.

Corrys Tigers colleague, England scrum-half Harry Ellis, won the young player of the year award, chosen ahead of Ollie Smith, Mathew Tait, Chris Bell and Matt Stevens.

I feel extremely privileged to be voted the young player of the year, said Ellis. This has been a fantastic season with Leicester, and I hope to finish it with victory in the Premiership final.

Other award winners included former England skipper Lawrence Dallaglio, for his outstanding contribution to rugby, and New Zealand superstar Jonah Lomu, following his courageous fight against illness.

PRA Awards:
Computacenter players player of the year - Martin Corry
Mercedes-Benz young player of the year - Harry Ellis
Premier Rugby highlight of the season - Leeds Powergen Cup final victory
Kingston Smith special merit award - Lawrence Dallaglio
Blyth Spirit award - Jonah Lomu
Daily Telegraph try of the year - Bruce Reihana (Northampton) v Bath
Hall of fame inductions - Gareth Edwards and Sean Fitzpatrick
