Robinson: England ready to take on world
19 March 2005, 9:16 pm
Andy Robinson has declared England are ready to "take on the world" after ending a difficult RBS 6 Nations campaign with a comprehensive victory over Scotland to win the Calcutta Cup.
England ran in seven tries, including a hat-trick for centre Jamie Noon, to seal only their second win of the campaign.

But Robinson has been delighted by the way England have developed through the championship and believes he now has a squad capable of beating the best around.

He said: We are constantly learning. International sport is about small margins.

We lost the earlier games by small margins and it is about our attention to detail.

Whilst we have lacked experience, we can still compete against anybody. We will get better and better and I can see this England side going from strength to strength because of this tournament.

I wouldnt fear anyone because I feel we have a team now who can take on the world.

I was pleased with todays performance. We knew it would be a fast game with the frustrations both sides have had with the way they have played in the tournament.

You knew we would both want to go out and perform and I thought it was a very good game of rugby.

Robinson reserved special praise for Noons performance and the way in which the Newcastle centre has settled into the rigours of Test rugby through the championship.

He is one of a number of players we didnt really know about before the start of the tournament and who has come through, said Robinson.

I think Jamie has got better and better and he has capped it off with a very, very good performance today both in attack and defence. His whole attitude has been immense throughout.

It has been a special time for him, having a new-born baby and he has been able to cope over the last seven weeks tremendously well.

After all Englands injury woes, Robinson was delighted to see a number of players step up and assume the leadership responsibilities during the tournament and he believes that will stand England in good stead for the future.

We have seen a real strong leadership in the squad. We have really seen three or four leaders emerge, said Robinson.

As well as finding new players, it has been important to find new leaders.
