Robinson: We're getting there
16 March 2005, 5:33 pm
England head coach Andy Robinson has challenged his players to sharpen their execution and finish the RBS 6 Nations with a rousing Calcutta Cup victory over Scotland.
England are in the rare position of finishing the championship away from the glare of attention after only securing their first win last weekend, against Italy.

But for Robinson, Saturday's clash with Scotland at Twickenham is the next crucial stage in England's development.

They already have the best defence in the championship and managed six tries against the Italians.

But the coaching team have since identified another 10 opportunities which went begging and converting those remains the next big challenge.

Robinson said: ''We are moving forward and that is the key for us.

''Right from day one and that poor performance against Wales I think we have really moved forward.

''We have to improve our execution. We scored six tries but went through the video and realised we could have scored another 10 from clear-cut opportunities we created but did not finish off.

''You saw last week some outstanding execution of our scrum moves. People say you can't score from first phase but this team are showing we have that ability.

''We have to be more ruthless in terms of our finishing but the great thing is we are creating those opportunities and that is how the side have moved forward.

Robinson will not allow the squad to lessen their intensity just because there is a Grand Slam encounter taking place in Cardiff just before England kick-off at Twickenham.

He continued: ''We have to focus on playing Scotland. This is another international match for us. We must not waste what we did last week and waste the improvements we have made with a poor performance.

''We really want to finish this tournament on a high. Both teams have had opportunities in this series of matches and haven't taken them.

''They have shown some outstanding play in patches and we have done the same. We will try to put an 80-minute performance together, so will Scotland. I think it could be an outstanding match.''
