Checchinato fears free-scoring France
14 March 2005, 3:00 pm
Italy assistant manager Carlo Checchinato insists the Azzurri will have to perform at their very best if they are to stop France from clocking up a big score on Saturday at the Stadio Flaminio in Rome.
The only way France can win the RBS 6 Nations tournament is for Wales to lose to Ireland, and France to beat Italy by a big enough margin to make their points difference better than either Wales or Ireland.

Wales currently have a points difference of plus 62, while Irelands is plus 37 and France are back on plus nine.

The Azzurri will be hoping to upset the form book against Les Blues and hope England put enough points on the board against Scotland to condemn the Scots to the wooden spoon.

We have to give our best to stop this French team, Checchinato said.

They are a very good side and on Saturday they were outstanding against the Irish. I believe they are coming to Rome with the intention of scoring lots of tries and hope the Irish will do the job at the Millennium Stadium.

Im sure if we play at our best despite the injury worries, we can still make it difficult for the French. We have to play with pride and discipline and hopefully are fans will push us for 80 minutes.

I'm sure we will finish this RBS 6 Nations in style and we will be back stronger than ever next year.
