World champions England broke their RBS 6 Nations points duck after three successive defeats by defeating Italy 39-7 in a wooden spoon battle at Twickenham.

It was England's 11th win in a row over the Italians, and arrived courtesy of a Mark Cueto try hat-trick, and touchdowns from recalled full-back Iain Balshaw, hooker Steve Thompson and substitute flanker Andy Hazell.

The victory at last got England back on the winning track and they will feel confident of following up with another triumph against Twickenham visitors Scotland next Saturday.

I am really pleased with the performance, and I was especially pleased with the way Mark Cueto, Ian Balshaw and Josh Lewsey performed in the back three, Robinson said.

As a whole, this team has stuck together. We've all been frustrated with the results, but we were really keen to put on a performance.

We are moving forward, we are building and this was a step in the right direction. We have now got to build on it next week, and this team knows it can get better.

Robinson paid tribute to Cueto, who has now scored seven tries in seven England appearances since making his debut against Canada last November.

He knows how to score tries and that is what you want from a wing, Robinson added.
He knows where the line is, and he was on the end, certainly with two of his tries, of some outstanding play.

As for Balshaw's successful try-scoring comeback - he replaced an injured Jason Robinson - Andy Robinson said: There was a real bounce about him with his confidence on the ball and his enthusiasm to get into positions.

Robinson refused to be drawn on the possibility of England's World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson being involved against Scotland next Saturday.

Wilkinson, who has not played international rugby since the World Cup final 16 months ago due to a catalogue of injuries, is set to make his latest comeback when Newcastle visit Harlequins in the Premiership on Sunday.

It will be fly-half Wilkinson's first appearance at any level for more than two months, and Robinson added: Let Jonny enjoy Sunday. It has been very frustrating for him and Newcastle, but everything has been very professional with the way it has been handled.

Number eight Martin Corry is once again set to captain England with Jason Robinson sidelined, and he also gained praise from his coach.

Martin has really shown his character, he has grown as a player and he has led the team in his way. All credit to him, said Robinson.
