Italy look to shock Twickenham
10 March 2005, 1:59 pm
Italy team manager Marco Bollesan has a dream that will see England ripped to shreds at Twickenham this weekend by an Azzurri side launching wave after wave of unstoppable free-flowing attacking rugby.
However, the reality of Italys situation heading into Saturdays RBS 6 Nations showdown in London means Bollesan would be happy to settle for simply a decent performance from his team.

Italy are bottom of the standings, having never won an away match in the tournament, and having conceded an average of almost 56 points per game in their previous Six Nations meetings with England, a side they have never beaten in a full international.

Those statistics do not bode well for Italy this weekend but that hasnt stopped Bollesan from holding out hope they can produce one of the biggest shocks in recent years against the reigning world champions.

We really are going to Twickenham to make history, maybe we won't get two points (for the win) but we have to play at our best and better than ever, Bollesan said.

We want to see an Italy side that are consistent, determined, fearless and motivated enough to worry our opponents. We have to attack and attack even when the English are pressing us.

With both teams having yet to pick up a win, Saturdays match will go a long way to deciding which nation ends up with the wooden spoon at the end of the competition.

Bollesan is under no illusions just how tough the match is likely to be though with England looking to relieve their frustration following defeats to Wales, France and Ireland.

We are going there to avoid the wooden spoon, but we are facing one of the best teams in the world at their home ground, so for us it will be very difficult to achieve it, Bollesan admitted.
