France still hold title ambitions
10 March 2005, 11:11 am
France's chances of retaining their RBS 6 Nations crown may be hanging by a thread but centre Yannick Jauzion is not giving up hope just yet.
Les Bleus travel to Dublin to take on Ireland this weekend knowing that a defeat will end any lingering hope they have of keeping hold of the trophy they won so convincingly last year.

However, it is going to be a tough task for a French side who were downed 24-18 by Wales at the Stade de France in their last match, as Ireland are sitting pretty at the top of the standings with three wins out of three.

Although he admits it is a long shot for France to pip either Ireland or Wales - who are also unbeaten - for the championship, Jauzion insists his side will battle to the last.

France have little chance of winning the RBS 6 Nations but that is not a reason for us not to hope and to try, Jauzion said.

The Toulouse back is more than aware though that France will need more than hope to beat Ireland - a team he rates extremely highly.

(France coach) Bernard Laporte has strengthened the pack because the Irish second row is the most efficient in the world, he said.

The way the Irish beat England confirmed what I thought - Ireland are the complete team.
Scrum-half Dimitri Yachvili believes France will need to take the game to Ireland early on if they are to cause an upset at Lansdowne Road.

And the Biarritz man insists it is not beyond Les Bleus to come away from Dublin with a win.

He said: The beginning of the game will be very important. It will be tough and physical.

We can go to Ireland to win, we went to England and beat them. It is not impossible.
