Bergamasco targets Twickenham shock
8 March 2005, 3:56 pm
Italy three-quarter Mirco Bergamasco insists his side can re-write the record books and upset England at Twickenham this weekend.
Italy have never beaten England in a full international or won an away match in the RBS 6 Nations and go into Saturdays game bottom of the standings following three successive defeats.

However, England are unusually fragile at the minute and they have also suffered three consecutive losses in the tournament, leaving Bergamasco to believe Italy have an outside chance of defeating the reigning world champions this weekend.

We are really training hard for Saturday. I know it will not be easy to win in England, but I'm sure it will not be impossible. We can change the odds, nothing in rugby is impossible, he said.

Certainly the English want to beat us for different reasons. They need a victory to avoid the wooden spoon, need a victory to interrupt the series of three consecutive defeats in this tournament and they need a victory to make up with their fans, especially at Twickenham.

We are going to play to the best of our ability and who knows maybe we will make history, he added.

Saturday we are hoping to make history playing the game of our lives, and it would be a dream to get a victory in that great stadium against the world champions, it could be a dream come true.

Bergamasco can't wait to step out at Twickenham, a stadium where he has some good memories.

Playing in the RBS 6 Nations is an immense feeling, every stadium and city is wonderful and I'm proud of it, he said.

But to play at Twickenham is a different thing. Every time I play in it is like I am dreaming.

I have already scored twice in that stadium, and in Italy we say there is not two without three!
