Corry: Winning will come
2 March 2005, 6:23 pm
Martin Corry insists the England chariot remains on course for World Cup glory in 2007 despite being bogged down in a deepening crisis.
England suffered a seismic blow on Tuesday with captain Jason Robinson ruled out for the remainder of the RBS 6 Nations after tearing a ligament in his thumb.

But despite the injuries and the defeats - nine in 12 Tests and now four on the bounce - Corry believes England have the mettle and spirit to pull through.

''We have got confidence in our own ability despite the results. We have got a great team spirit and that is in no small part down to Jason Robinson's captaincy,'' said the number 8, now one of the leading contenders to take over as skipper.

''What we are not doing is winning the games yet, but that will come. I am confidant to say that because I know that will come.

''Nobody likes losing games, me more than most, but we are on the right course. We are playing for England, we want to be the best side in the world, we believe we can be and those are the targets we are setting ourselves.

''We are all working incredibly hard to get ourselves out of it. We have great confidence and team spirit in the camp and we have to keep moving the bar up.

''Our objective is to start winning games and get back up to where we want to be.
''I feel all the work that goes on behind the scenes is positive.

''To be honest, we are a way from where we want to be and of course there is going to be pressure.

''But we know we are on the right course, we don't want to be making any drastic changes. It is not a question of pushing any panic buttons.''
