Webster eager to face Wales
1 March 2005, 10:50 am
Simon Webster is relishing the chance to test himself against the much-vaunted Wales backline in the RBS 6 Nations clash at Murrayfield.
The Edinburgh wing returned to the Scotland line-up at the expense of Simon Danielli for the 18-10 victory over Italy and looked to have done enough to hold onto the number 14 jersey for the match with Wales.

Mike Ruddocks backs have impressed with their pace and handling skills in the championship to date, running France ragged at the beginning of the second half in Paris.

Webster said: Of course playing Wales, if I am picked, is something I will look forward to.

''It is those type of games you play rugby for.

Playing against the best of the home nations is what it is all about. Hopefully I will keep my place and enjoy the game.

It will be a different game to the one against Italy, who were happy to kick the ball at us.

Against Wales we know they will run at us. They are playing with confidence and we know they have good players.

The Hartlepool-born flyer believes the Scotland backs can now cope with the Welsh wonders, especially with Chris Paterson marshalling affairs from full-back.

Webster said: We have been together as a pool of backs for some time now and we have trained together a lot so there is a good understanding there.

It is more difficult to play with people you are not used to but we know each other now and of course we have Mossy (Paterson) behind us.

He is just awesome. No matter what team he is playing for he would be a great player. He is also a great organiser, which is invaluable to us.
