Man of the match Ronan O'Gara breathed a sigh of relief after Grand Slam hopefuls Ireland beat England 19-13 at Lansdowne Road and admitted "we made hard work of it".
Brian ODriscolls second-half try proved to be decisive but Ireland had to survive late England pressure to claim their third victory of the RBS 6 Nations Championship.
Eddie OSullivans men stay on course for a potential Grand Slam decider with Wales on the final weekend of the tournament while Englands misery continues with another defeat that leaves them pointless along with Italy.
A jubilant OGara, who contributed 14 of Irelands points with a conversion, two penalties and two drop goals, told BBC1: Its always a special win for Ireland to beat England but we made hard work of it in the end.
We never take a win over England lightly. We had two or three chances to close the match down but we couldnt take them.
OGara acknowledged that Ireland had not been at their best - there is plenty of work to be done - with France in Dublin and Wales in Cardiff to come.
