Wales had trailed 15-6 at half-time after a rampant 40 minutes from a French side which had seemingly rediscovered its flair.

But Cardiff flanker Martyn Williams scored twice inside five minutes of the restart as Wales charged into the lead.

Fly-half Stephen Jones then extended the advantage with a third penalty and calm drop-goal before some heroic defence at the death secured Wales a stunning victory.

At half-time we talked about the three Ts - the turnovers which were killing us, the tackles we were missing and we were missing touch as well, allowing France to counter-attack and come back at us, said Ruddock.

Those were the main thoughts from me. There was no one specific thing, just the realisation we had to double our efforts. We believed we could still get the result. That comes with the confidence we have gained from our other couple of wins.

Modern rugby scoring means what looks like big gap can change very quickly. Its never over unless you think it is. It was just whether we were mentally strong enough to do it. But there is a belief in this team now.

I was disappointed with the first half. We looked a yard off where we should have been in terms of timing on the ball and adjusting in attack and defence. But we didnt panic. We kicked a couple of goals, our set piece was in good nick and we knew we had a chance.

With two away wins we have a lot of mental strength. We went at it from the start of the second half with two great tries and the defence in those last few minutes was outstanding.

It all underlined the character and desire in the team to get the wins.
