Bergamasco expecting tough Scotland test
24 February 2005, 7:58 pm
Italy three-quarter Mirco Bergamasco believes Saturday's RBS 6 Nations match with Scotland will be a very tough encounter.
The match is already being billed as a battle to avoid the wooden spoon and Bergamasco believes for that reason the Scots will represent tough opposition.

The younger of the Bergamasco brothers was impressed with how Matt Williams side performed against France in their opener when a late Damien Traille try cost the Scots what would have been a spectacular upset in Paris.

Bergamasco said: Last year I played against the Scots in Rome for just a couple of minutes but on the other occasions I always played and in 2003, even though we lost, I scored a try at Murrayfield in the first four minutes.

We are going to Scotland knowing this will be a very hard task for us.

Our opponents are a solid team, who never give up and who played very well against France in the opening match and I believe the score against the Irish was a little harsh on them.

There are three games before the tournament ends and I still believe anything can happen.

Bergamasco also believes world champions England - who lost their first two matches to Wales and France - are still competitive.

He explained: I believe the English still have lots to give and all the others team must beware of them even if they have already lost two games.
