Phillips posers for Ruddock

Llanelli Scarlets scrum-half Mike Phillips has given Wales boss Mike Ruddock a selection headache for Saturday's match with France after bagging a first-half try double in the Scarlets' 18-11 Celtic League win at Connacht on Friday night.

The 2004 champions picked up their first win on Irish soil since October 2003 - coincidentally also against Connacht, and with Phillips a try-scorer - as Gareth Jenkins' side profited in a lacklustre encounter.

The 22-year-old Phillips' ingenuity as he touched down twice in the space of seven first half minutes was the highlight.

Ireland hooker Bernard Jackman - back from squad duty - sparked an early showing from Connacht as he carried well.

But the Scarlets, missing skipper and Jackman's international team-mate Simon Easterby, were not to be denied.
