Italy coach John Kirwan refused to be downbeat despite his side's failure to repeat last weekend's heroics against Ireland in their 38-8 RBS 6 Nations defeat to Wales.
Italy were thoroughly outplayed by their rampant opponents, who scored tries almost at will, prompting Kirwan to hail them as serious championship challengers.
We didnt play that well. Our gameplan didnt work out,'' he said.
''I think our pack did a good job but we didnt kick that well. Ive spoken to the team and told them we have to be positive and raise ourselves against Scotland.''
We played badly and deserved to get beaten - were not good enough to play badly and get away with it. In general I still think were getting better bit by bit.
Wales are a very good team but they must maintain this standard. Everyone has said Ireland are favourites but I think Wales have a very good chance of winning the championship.
Flanker Mauro Bergamasco and full-back Roland de Marigny both picked up injuries and the extent of the damage will be assessed on Sunday.
