Alessandro Troncon will extend his record as the most capped player when Italy host Wales in Saturday's RBS 6 Nations clash at the Flaminio stadium.
The Benetton Treviso scrum half will make his 87th appearance for the Azzurri this weekend.
It is a very significant game for me because I will extend the highest record of appearances with the national team, said Troncon.
It's even more special considering it is a Six Nations game that is very important for us after our defeat against Ireland.
The 31-year-old missed last year's tournament through injury but has returned in style helping the Azzurri achieve much praise following their inspiring performance in last weekend's 28-17 defeat against Ireland.
Troncon knows Italy face a challenging task against Wales, who beat world champions England in their opening RBS 6 Nations game.
Wales are a team that have a lot of rhythm in their play, said Troncon.
They are very strong but their main characteristic they have proved in the past few years is their fast play.
