Robinson warns Wales over Tait
3 February 2005, 9:29 am
Jason Robinson's twinkling feet have been the shining light of English rugby for the past four years but the England captain has warned Wales a new RBS 6 Nations star could be born at the Millennium stadium on Saturday in the shape of 18-year-old centre Mathew Tait.
Robinson has first-hand knowledge of the skill the Welsh will face. And he admits that already it has made him look silly.

The England full-back was in the Sale side which narrowly lost to Newcastle at Kingsholm on New Years Day when Tait barged straight through his attempted tackle to score a first-half try.

I got my head in the wrong position. I thought he was going to step me but he just bumped me off that day, admitted Robinson.

He showed me how strong he is. Hes been playing outstanding for his club. Ive played against him a couple of times this year and on that one occasion he really made me look silly. He bundled me out of the way.

Hes got a lot of pace, hes confident, hes a strong lad.

I remember my first international fixture, it was a massive thing. But for him playing against Wales in one of the best stadiums in the world, the atmospheres going to be great and hopefully we will see a star born.

Obviously there will be nerves and not just from the young guys. The main thing is to go out and play the way he has been playing and really to enjoy it and not let the atmosphere get the better of him.

Tait trained with the England squad at their Bagshot headquarters in a session which flanker Lewis Moody was forced to sit out. The Leicester star has been battling a hamstring injury and will take a fitness test later this week.

Sales Chris Jones stands by but if Moody misses out it will cause something of a back-row conundrum for coach Andy Robinson with Saracens utility forward Hugh Vyvyan already on the bench.
