Robinson unconcerned by Grewcock sideshow
1 February 2005, 5:02 pm
England boss Andy Robinson insists he has 'no issues' with Danny Grewcock after selecting the Bath and Lions lock for Saturday's RBS 6 Nations Championship opener against Wales.
Grewcock could yet find himself in disciplinary hot water following his much-publicised stamp on former England skipper Lawrence Dallaglio during Bath's Zurich Premiership victory over Wasps three days ago.

The Rugby Football Union's independent citing officer has until late tomorrow afternoon to decide whether or not the 52-cap Grewcock should face a disciplinary panel.

If Grewcock is cited then he would be unable to play international rugby until the hearing, effectively ruling him out of the Millennium Stadium showdown.Robinson though, does not expect the matter to go any further.

"Rugby is a physical game and Danny has been very good for England in terms of his self-control over the last couple of years,'' said Robinson.

"We've got no issues with Danny Grewcock. I want him to play his normal game on Saturday and I expect him to do that.

"There has been no word about him being cited. I haven't seen the incident but I am not expecting him to be cited.''

Grewcock straight-batted questions about the Dallaglio episode when quizzed at England's Surrey training base today.
Asked if he felt anxiety about any possible citing, Grewcock replied 'No', and when asked if, in his own mind, he knew where the fine line was (between fair play and foul), he said 'Yes'.

Grewcock is one of only three England players to have been sent off in a Test match, while he was cited and banned following an on-pitch incident during the second Test defeat against New Zealand at Auckland's Eden Park last summer.

Other career misdemeanours include being sent off during the 2003 Parker Pen Challenge Cup final between Bath and Wasps - for punching Dallaglio - and his Premiership record shows a total of nine yellow cards.

"I am there to play rugby, to enjoy my rugby, and that is what I will be doing on Saturday,'' said Grewcock.

"It's going to be a fantastic opportunity against a talented Welsh team, and all the (England) players are going to have to be on top of their game.

"Second-row is an area where they could perhaps have picked two of say five or six guys, and it wouldn't have really weakened the team too much.

"Myself and Ben (Kay) have been lucky just to get the edge, and I am fairly certain it is a narrow edge, on the other guys.''
