Andy Gomarsall is ready to take up the challenge of regaining an England place if he misses out on next Saturday's RBS 6 Nations Championship opener against Wales.
Gomarsall, Englands scrum-half throughout the three-Test autumn series, looks set to be replaced by fellow World Cup winner Matt Dawson when head coach Andy Robinson announces the team for Cardiff on Monday.
But the 23-times-capped Gloucester star will battle on, even if he slips down the pecking order behind Dawson and Leicester prospect Harry Ellis.
Gomarsall will probably be in Twickenham next Saturday - lining up in Gloucester colours against Harlequins - as England prepare for the Millennium Stadium showdown with Wales.
And he will give that Premiership encounter his undivided attention, should he not be required on the RBS 6 Nations stage.
I have just got to keep at it, keep going. That is the way it is, said Gomarsall, following an impressive try-scoring display in Gloucesters 28-16 Premiership win against Worcester.
Certainly (against Worcester) I ticked a lot of the boxes that Andy Robinson wants, and I was really pleased with my performance. I feel the pressure is off me, and I have a lot of points to prove.
I am battling hard, and I am fit and raring to go. Hopefully, I will play some part (for England), but if it is not meant to be, then it is not meant to be.
