England boss Andy Robinson has been given an injury lift after it was revealed that Leicester duo Lewis Moody and Ben Kay and Wasps' scrum-half Matt Dawson should be available the RBS 6 Nations opener against Wales.
Moody - a certainty for the Millennium Stadium clash in seven days - tweaked his hamstring in midweek and was a late withdrawal from the Tigers side which defeated Harlequins 32-17 on Saturday.
Kay, who is thought to have been earmarked for one of the second-row spots, developed flu but was pressed into action against Quins when fellow lock Martin Johnson also pulled out with a back injury.
Dawson was left out of Wasps' match with Bath after suffering an injury to his right calf.
Tigers head coach John Wells expects both Kay and Moody to be available for next weekend, however, and Wasps head coach Warren Gatland expects Dawson to be fit when England meet for training next week, allowing Robinson to breath a sigh of relief that Englands growing injury crisis has not deepened.
Johnno called this morning to say hed hurt his back and then Ben rang to say he was sick. I said: 'Lets see what we can do when you get to the ground'. The situation was that it was not in Johnnos best interest to play, said Wells.
We asked Ben to play and he did well to get through the match - he was on his last legs. Lewis picked up a mild hamstring strain on Wednesday. There was no chance of him playing today, but he should be fine in a couple of days.
If England hold back on his training early in the week then he should be there or thereabouts for the weekend. Both he and Ben are short-term problems so they should be OK for Wales.
And Gatland had equally good news on scrum-half Dawson.
Hes got a fitness test with England in the week but hes got a good chance of playing, Gatland said.
However, Gloucester flanker Andy Hazell faces an anxious wait over his fitness after limping out of his side's 28-16 win over Worcester at Kingsholm.
His knee injury is expected to be assessed on Sunday.
