Wales are sweating on the fitness of Gavin Henson after the utility back admitted he is carrying a groin injury that could keep him out of his country's RBS 6 Nations opener against England.
The 22-year-old was the hero of his club side the Ospreys' dramatic 22-21 win against Ulster on Friday night that kept the Neath-Swansea outfit top of the Celtic League. Henson bagged all 22 of his side's points, but afterwards revealed that the niggling injury was a cause for concern.
"I'm struggling to sprint, as everyone could see when I scored my try," Henson told the Welsh Rugby Union website, www.wru.co.uk.
"I've been struggling with the injury for a few weeks now and I cant run properly. My kicking is alright, but I can't sprint.
"The injury is in the back of my mind, but I hope it will be alright for the England game."
Wales coach Mike Ruddock will want to have one of the most versatile players at his disposal fit for their February 5 opener, but will be concerned at the way Henson tied up in the final 10 metres of his 50 metre sprint to the line for his side's only try of the night.
"We are aware that Gavin has got a bit of a groin strain," said Ruddock.
"We will monitor his progress this week and modify his training so that, hopefully, he will be OK for England."
