England captain Jonny Wilkinson faces another injury scare in the build-up to the RBS 6 Nations.
Coach Andy Robinson will anxiously await the results of a scan after the fly-half, only recently returned to the side after various injury problems, was left prone on the ground and in obvious pain after ending up at the bottom of a ruck during his sides European Cup defeat at Perpignan.
He received extensive treatment and tried to continue but then signalled to the bench that he had to come off with an injury to his left knee.
Newcastle officials hoped to have a scan organised for Wilkinson at a local clinic, and Falcons director of rugby Rob Andrew said: Jonny has damaged his left knee and our medical team are working on it and now having a look.
We have no idea yet the extent of the damage but Jonny is in some pain and clearly suffered some damage to knee. Well know more when he has a scan.
