France flanker Olivier Magne has revealed he will leave Clermont-Auvergne at the end of the season and hopes to finish his club career either with Stade Francais or in England.
Magne has earned 80 international caps but he has been selected in only five matches for Clermont-Auvergne this campaign with his last appearance coming on October 16 against Toulouse.
Although not losing the trust of national coach Bernard Laporte, who called him up for their three Test matches last November, Magne has made it clear he is fed up with his lack of club rugby.
"I have decided to leave ASM at the end of the season," the 31-year-old told local newspaper La Montagne on Tuesday.
"It is a certainty I will play at another club next campaign.
"This is a well-considered decision. In six seasons with ASM I have done a lot of things and it's time for me to change and to commit myself to another side. It's better for both of us."
Magne claimed the club did not see him as part of their future.
"Last year I was already having doubts, I asked the president to extend my contract by three years but they only offered one year," he said.
"I understood at that point that I was not part of the long-term plans.
"I don't feel they have a great confidence in me. I have no time to build up new things and I don't want to remain in an unsure situation, especially at the end of my career.
"I was just hoping for more."
Magne is now eyeing a move to Stade Francais or possibly across the Channel.
"I know this won't be easy to find a new club, he said, but my priority is to keep playing until 2007 (when France host the World Cup).
"I still have a few contacts in England but I would rather stay in the Top 16.
"And I must admit that a club like Stade Francais would suit me well."
In the meantime, Magne is ready to give his best for Clermont-Auvergne.
"I am a professional and my sole idea will be to leave a good image of myself with the
club," he said.
"I owe that to my team-mates. There have always been a great respect between us and it's important to bring in new talent and put them in the best possible situation.
"I will not change my decision to leave because there are too many misunderstandings between me and the club to hope for a solution.
"But until June Clermont-Auvergne can definitely count on me."
France, meanwhile, will start their 2005 RBS 6 Nations title defence on February 5 against Scotland at the Stade de France with Laporte set to announce his squad on January 27.
