Awesome New Zealand destroy France
27 November 2004, 10:08 pm
New Zealand produced an awesome display of attacking rugby to trounce RBS 6 Nations champions France 45-6 in front of a packed Stade de France crowd on Saturday night.
The All Blacks ran in five tries and barely allowed their outclassed hosts a sniff as Graham Henrys side inflicted a second successive home defeat on the French.

It was the boots of Daniel Carter and Frederic Michalak that provided the early points, Carters four successes giving New Zealand a 12-6 lead midway through the first half.

France were not able to keep the All Blacks out for too much longer, though, and the tourists got the try their domination deserved right on the stroke of half-time when Rodney So'oialo shrugged off the challenge of Cedric Heymans to touch down a try.

Although it was difficult kick, left-footed Carter once again proved perfect with the conversion to give New Zealand a 19-6 lead at half-time.

If that left France with a mountain to climb, then it was about to get a whole lot worse at the start of the second half when flanker Jerry Collins - helped by a number of team-mates - barged his way over for New Zealands second try of the match, with Carter converting.

The home side survived further New Zealand attacks but the respite was only temporary as just moments later, the impressive Carter made the most of an overlap on the right to stroll over for a try, which he then converted.

Scrum-half Byron Kelleher was the next to get his name on the scoresheet, going over in the left-hand corner as the All Blacks added salt to French wounds.

France tried to restore some pride in the closing stages, but in truth the All Blacks tryline was never really threatened and the tourists were still able to grab the final word when Ma'a Nonu went over for their fifth try.

The massively impressive Carter, with the final kick of the match, successfully kicked the conversion to give himself a personal haul of 25 and complete an emphatic victory for his country.
