White returns for Scotland
25 November 2004, 12:33 pm
Scotland coach Matt Williams has made two changes to his team for the autumn Test against South Africa on Saturday.
Jason White of Sale Sharks returns to the starting XV at blindside flanker to earn his 43rd cap.

Allister Hogg moves to number eight in a positional switch, which sees Jon Petrie revert to the bench.

Chris Paterson wins his 50th cap, while captain Gordon Bulloch equals Kenny Logans record as second most-capped Scotland international on 70 appearances.

Williams is now calling on fans to come out in force at Murrayfield to help Scotland repeat the defeat of the Springboks two years ago.

He said: I encourage all Scotland supporters to come along to Murrayfield to cheer on the team.

South Africa are the Tri-Nations champions and represent formidable opposition but our players are eager and ready.

Williams has also drafted in Craig Hamilton as a standby for lock Stuart Grimes, who is suffering from a virus.

Springboks coach Jake White has made several changes to his team for the game at Murrayfield.

But Williams insists that is not a route he wants to follow.

He said: This is the only opportunity before the next World Cup to play four games in a row without a break.

So I wanted to put the team through what is a replica of the World Cup.

Six months ago, Chris Cusiter came into the team and jaws dropped and now people are talking about him being a Lion.

It just shows you the significant depth of the talent available to South Africa.

Jake is rotating the team to give opportunities to the players and they rarely let their country down.

Scotland team to play South Africa in the Abbey autumn Test at Murrayfield on Saturday:

H Southwell (Edinburgh Rugby); C Paterson (Edinburgh Rugby), B Hinshelwood (Worcester), A Henderson (Glasgow Rugby), S Lamont (Glasgow Rugby); D Parks (Glasgow Rugby), C Cusiter (The Borders); A Jacobsen (Edinburgh Rugby), G Bulloch (Glasgow Rugby), G Kerr (Leeds Tykes), S Grimes (Newcastle Falcons), N Hines (Edinburgh Rugby), J White (Sale Sharks), A Hogg (Edinburgh Rugby), D Macfadyen (Glasgow Rugby)

Replacements: R Russell (London Irish), B Douglas (The Borders), S MacLeod (The Borders), J Petrie (Glasgow Rugby), M Blair (Edinburgh Rugby), G Ross (Leeds Tykes), G Morrison (Glasgow Rugby).
