Robinson sticks to winning team
23 November 2004, 11:41 am
Andy Robinson named an unchanged team for England's Twickenham appointment with Australia, and declared: "Every one of these players deserves to keep his place."
England coach Robinson has predictably retained the side that destroyed Tri-Nations champions South Africa 32-16 last weekend.

Full-back Jason Robinson keeps the captaincy in Jonny Wilkinsons continued absence through injury, and he will be looking for England to complete an autumn series clean sweep following wins against South Africa and Canada.

England have so far scored 102 points and conceded just one try in dismantling Canada and the Springboks.

And victory over World Cup runners-up Australia on Saturday would complete a thoroughly convincing November programme at the start of Englands post-Sir Clive Woodward era.

Every one of these players deserves to keep his place after last Saturdays performance, said Robinson.

There is much that can still be improved upon, but I want to see this combination up against Australia on Saturday.

Australia have not beaten England at Twickenham since late 1998, losing three successive Tests, but they will arrive this time around on the back of a 51-15 victory against the world champions in Brisbane five months ago.

Unlike England, the Wallabies are reeling from injury setbacks, with fly-half Stephen Larkham (broken arm) and centre Stirling Mortlock (fractured cheekbone) already ruled out.

Fly-half Charlie Hodgson, whose 27-point haul equalled the England individual record against South Africa, will again spearhead the home sides attacking strategy, while Robinson can realistically expect another powerful performance from an outstanding red rose pack.

There are four survivors from Englands World Cup final starting XV that beat the Wallabies in Sydney a year ago - Jason Robinson, Josh Lewsey, Mike Tindall and Steve Thompson.

England team to play Australia at Twickenham on Saturday:
J Robinson (Sale Sharks, capt); M Cueto (Sale Sharks), H Paul (Gloucester), M Tindall (Bath), J Lewsey (Wasps); C Hodgson (Sale Sharks), A Gomarsall (Gloucester); G Rowntree (Leicester), S Thompson (Northampton), J White (Leicester), D Grewcock (Bath), S Borthwick (Bath), J Worsley (Wasps), L Moody (Leicester), M Corry (Leicester).

Replacements: A Titterrell (Sale Sharks), A Sheridan (Sale Sharks), B Kay (Leicester), A Hazell (Gloucester), H Ellis (Leicester), W Greenwood (Harlequins), B Cohen (Northampton).
