Retired England captain Lawrence Dallaglio is backing his side to rebuild and bounce back for the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
Dallaglio, whose decision to quit international rugby was swiftly followed by the departure of head coach Sir Clive Woodward, believes that Englands motivation may have been lacking since they became world champions with last years historic victory over Australia.
England have lost five of their last six internationals but he said: England are really motivated now. They will have a new captain, they will have a new coach and the players will be motivated which, collectively, you would have to say they possibly havent been since November 22.
With Dallaglio becoming the seventh World Cup winner to bow out of the side, England will inevitably have a new look for the Autumn internationals against Canada, Australia and New Zealand with acting coach Andy Robinson in charge for the first time.
Dallaglio said: There is the chance for new players to establish themselves on the international stage against two of the best teams in the world. I think you will see a very positive statement from England.
Teams change, captains change, coaches move on and no one player and no one coach is bigger than that so Im very positive that things will move forward and England will get back to winning ways.
To do that, Dallaglio believes former assistant coach Robinson must come out from Woodwards shadow and impose his own management style on the team.
Robbo has been very instrumental in Englands success but what people have to appreciate is that Clive had his structure and that structure worked because he was at the top of it, said the Wasps number eight.
He was very much in charge of that. Andy has the first crack to try and create a different structure which he will take control of. He has got to work out the best way for him to move that forward.
Clive was a very unique person and the way he set things up worked for Clive. Now hes moved away and Andy needs to establish his own structure and Im sure hell do that. He has the ability to do that and Im sure hes looking forward to it.
The expectation, Dallaglio acknowledged, is so much greater following the World Cup triumph but he expects England to rise to the challenge and answer their critics.
What England have lost is a huge amount of experience and experience is not something you can replace overnight, he added.
You have guys who have 50, 60, 70, 80 and 100 caps and that takes time to replace. It can only be replaced if a new generation of players get the opportunity to do that and new guys have to start somewhere.
The team that won the World Cup didnt happen straight away. It was two, three, four, five years in the making. We went through some pretty bad times but, lets be honest, the ultimate prize was worth the wait.
England have gone through some difficult times since the World Cup and there may be a couple more on the way but ultimately 2007, or whenever it might be, the prize is worth the wait.
The unfortunate thing is that the expectation on England will be so big now because we are world champions and, particularly at home, England expect results.
