Petrie to skipper Warriors
26 August 2004, 1:46 pm
Glasgow Warriors have appointed Jon Petrie as their new captain for the forthcoming season.
The Scotland international will take over from Cammy Mather after standing in as skipper last season - for both club and country.

Petrie wore the national armband for two matches on the summer tour of Australia and for eight Celtic League games with his club.

Now the back-row forward is relishing the challenge of leading Glasgow out this year.

Petrie said: Its an honour. Its nice to be asked, and Im looking forward to the challenge.

I did it a few times last season and also on the tour. I feel quite good at it.

Its a big season for us, with new guys coming in and now being a smaller squad.

Its good to be back in the European Cup. We couldnt have asked for a better draw. Im looking forward to the challenge.
