Robinson ready for lift-off
25 August 2004, 5:17 pm
Rested England star Jason Robinson handed Sir Clive Woodward a pre-season lift by declaring: "I feel ready to go again."
England's World Cup final try-scorer is fit and refreshed following his first summer off for 12 years.

And Woodward's world champions are certain to reap the benefit when England face November Tests against Tri-Nation champions South Africa, Australia and Canada.

England slumped to defeat against New Zealand (twice) and Australia during their recent summer tour, and Woodward has already admitted it is vital his team bounces back at the earliest possible opportunity.

And with Robinson raring for the season's kick-off as fellow England talisman Jonny Wilkinson continues his comeback from injury, the signs look good.

Since 1992, I've always done something every off-season, so I think my body was just due for a rest, mentally and physically, said Sale Sharks skipper Robinson.

Last year was a very demanding year with the World Cup, so having a summer break just enabled me to freshen up and spend time with the family.

I feel ready to go again, and I am looking forward to what will be a very tough year.

I just needed to get away. You want to play in all the games, but I think I just needed time away. I knew how I was feeling, and a decision had to be made.

Without the likes of Robinson, Wilkinson and Will Greenwood, England endured a month-long struggle Down Under, but there is a general feeling they will regroup and bounce back stronger from the experience.

I didn't watch all the games, I was on holiday, but I did see the last one (against Australia), and it was obviously disappointing, Robinson added.

I think it just showed that it had been a long year, and it has taken a lot out of the players. We have to regroup and go again.
