Wales legend Mervyn Davies believes former Wales international Scott Quinnell should not be considered for next year's British Lions tour of New Zealand.
Former Wales number eight Quinnell retired from international rugby in 2002 but is still active as player coach of Llanelli Scarlets and has put his name forward for Lions consideration.
Davies however believes it would be a mistake for Sir Clive Woodward to name him in his touring party.
Davies told the South Wales Echo: "He's made his choice and I think he should be left in peace in that sense. If Scott feels he is capable of a role, then it's all down to the selection panel.
"But at least the other guys are putting their case forward by playing international rugby, and competing against their rivals for their positions in the Six Nations.
"That's the way it should be. The intensity at international level is much higher than club rugby."
