England star Jason Robinson will captain Sale Sharks this season.
Director of Rugby Philippe Saint-Andre made the announcement today after promoting the former Wigan Rugby League player to skipper.
Robinson joined the Sharks in October 2000 from Wigan and has played over 80 games for the club.
Saint-Andre said: Jason is one of the games top players who has the respect of everyone in the game.
He has a winning mentality and I enjoy working with him on a day-to-day basis. I am sure he will lead the side well next season.
Robinson said: It is an honour to be asked to lead the club next season.
I enjoy playing for Sale Sharks and have led the side as stand-in captain on several occasions.
Its a big responsibility but I am looking forward to it. Its the first time in my career as a professional rugby player that I have been named as team captain before the season begins.
