Woodward wants to include coaches from each of the four home unions in his party but the Welsh Rugby Union have put a spanner in the works by revealing they will not release Mike Ruddock or his assistants.

But Ruddocks misfortune has presented Jenkins - a seasoned campaigner who has never coached at international level - with a chance to help Woodward plot victory over the All Blacks.

It would be a fantastic opportunity to work with the top coaches in the four nations on such a demanding and high-profile trip, he told BBC Radio Wales.

If it was to be Id be delighted. Any coach would look at it as the ultimate honour he could have is to become a Lions coach. I would include myself in that.

Woodward has been given permission to leave these shores with the biggest touring party in Lions history, consisting of 44 players and 26 coaching/back-up staff.

The Test and midweek teams will be overseen by two different trios of coaches during the 10-match tour, which could see the addition of a further fixture.
