Castres snap up Metcalfe

Former Scotland international Glenn Metcalfe has joined Castres Olympique from Glasgow Warriors on a six-month contract.

The arrival of the 34-year-old New Zealand-born player, who has 40 caps with Scotland, will compensate for the long-term absence of Romain Teulet.

A recent knee operation will keep Teulet out of action until early 2005.

Metcalfe, who called time on his international career after the 2003 World Cup in Australia, was also being pursued by Bayonne.

Castres failed to qualify for the play-offs last season. The 2004/05 French rugby season begins in September.
