The 30-year-old, who won the first of his 12 caps to date against Ireland in 1998, never really established himself in the national side but was brought back into the fold by Scotland coach Matt Williams during last season's RBS 6 Nations Championships.

But after failing to win a place in Scotland's summer trip to Australia, where team-mate Hugo Southwell emerged as one of several finds of the tour, Lee accepts he will struggle to get back in to the squad.

He said: I've sort of resigned myself to not playing again for Scotland but I'm not disappointed about it, I can understand.

There are still a lot of players who have a lot to offer like Gregor Townsend who are good enough to play for Scotland but aren't playing so it doesn't really bother me.

It was a bonus to play in the 6 Nations and I've got another year to go on my contract with Edinburgh and hopefully I'll have a good season then we'll see what happens.

But I'm not really confident of getting back in. It depends on who Matt plays. Hugo played in the Tests in Australia which is great for him.

I played at full-back for Edinburgh and Hugo has played on the wing but I'm a bit older than him so he's probably got more of a future than me.
