Springbok lock Geo Cronje has been called up to the national side as cover for first Test hero Bakkies Botha.
Botha, who was named man of the match and scored two tries to help his side defeat Ireland 31-17 in the opening Test, injured his ankle and will have to prove his fitness if he is to play a part in the second Test at Newlands.
Cronje's inclusion is somewhat of a surprise, but indicated that SA Rugby has moved on from last year's racism scandal, where the bearded lock was accused of refusing to share a room with black player Quinton Davids at the pre-World Cup training camp.
Cronje was subsequently exonerated by two separate investigations into the matter, but both he and Davids lost out on going to the World Cup. Davids came on as a reserve against Ireland on Saturday and played the last 18 minutes of the Test.
Cronje will join his younger brother Jacques, who made his debut in the first Test and is likely to keep his position for the second after a good performance all round.
If Botha is ruled out, it is likely that Davids will start the Test alongside Victor Matfield in the second row, but the move has certainly stirred up emotions in the country and is likely to initiate heavy debate in rugby circles over the matter.
South Africa coach Jake White, however, has refused to delve into the past, telling journalists at Mondays training session that the only thing he was interested in was in Saturday's second Test match.
What happened there is in the past, at this stage I am only interested in rugby issues which is why Geo is coming to provide back-up for Bakkies, White said.
The team for the second Test will be named on Tuesday, with White wanting a second look at his walking wounded before he makes a decision.
However, it is expected that Gwent Dragons fullback Percy Montgomery will come in for Gaffie du Toit, who had an indifferent day with the boot in the opening match.
Another indication from Monday's training session is that winger Henno Mentz, who made his debut on Saturday but saw little action, is likely to be dropped.
Jaque Fourie trained for longer in the position and it has even been mooted that Du Toit could play on the wing to give White more options at the back, but the Bok coach was giving no secrets away.
I would like to keep a settled squad and would prefer continuity, but obviously if a guy who was in the initial squad regains fitness then we should try to work him back into the team, White said.
Gaffie played well for us in Bloemfontein, so I would not like to send out a message that he has been dropped. He could find himself in another position in the team.
