Scotland coach Matt Williams was delighted to see his development squad finally take their first significant step forward with a comfortable victory over NSW Country in Wollongong.
It was also Scotlands first victory since Williams took over the reins seven months ago and he believes it reflected the progress that is being made with the country's next generation of stars.
Scotland led 20-10 at half time and rounded off a 48-10 victory with six tries and a faultless kicking display from fly-half Dan Parks.
Where the group are in their cycle, it takes time for them to get control of the game and I was not happy with the first half but the second-half intensity from the young guys was good, said Williams.
That helps the group move along - they are very young guys. There were another four or five guys playing their first match in a Scottish jersey.
They get a lot of confidence, a lot of enjoyment and self belief from that and that is just as important as some of the skills we are trying to teach them.
Williams hopes the victory will prove a positive precursor to Fridays Test match against Samoa in Wellington.
The players are supporting each other. The Test guys were right behind this team all week, he said.
They will be very happy with that and will gain some confidence as it gives the tour some momentum.
Scotlands tries came from Graeme Beveridge and Hugo Southwell in the first half and then Scott Gray, Scott Macleod, Paul Dearlove and Andy Hall after the break.
However, Williams named Gordon Ross as the Test fly-half for the Samoa game because of his impressive goal kicking form even though Parks did not miss one all night.
Dan kicked brilliantly, said Williams. Its what you want - the young guys that dont get selected, they come back and challenge.
I thought Dan had a very good game. I thought Scott Gray, who was disappointing against the Barbarians after 20 minutes, had a very good game.
I thought Graeme Morrison, who is only just 21, had a very positive game. There were a lot of good performances," he said.
Gareth Morgan was a bit nervous the other night but he was a lot more settled at full-back.
