England second row Alex Brown hopes to emulate Gloucester team-mate James Simpson-Daniel by using the annual clash with the Barbarians as a springboard to full international honours.
Simpson-Daniel made a stunning start to his England career in the same fixture two years ago, shackling opposite number Jonah Lomu and skinning the towering All Black on the way to scoring a dazzling solo try.
The supremely gifted back was only 19 at the time but has gone on to win six caps and will be contesting one of the wing berths during next months three-Test tour to New Zealand and Australia.
He would have been rewarded with further England recognition had it not been for his injury problems and a dose of glandular fever, but now he is back in Sir Clive Woodwards plans as the England boss starts building for the next World Cup.
Brown - who has won a spot in Englands shadow squad for the Churchill Cup in Canada - is hoping to pen a similar success story when he runs out at Twickenham on Sunday, using Simpson-Daniels exploits as inspiration.
Im really happy to be in the starting line-up. Its a fantastic opportunity for me to impress with the summer tours coming up, said the 25-year-old lock.
James played in this match a couple of years ago and made a name for himself after dealing with Jonah Lomu so well. We can really grab the spotlight against the Barbarians, especially if we win.
