England boss Sir Clive Woodward believes Sunday's clash with the Barbarians at Twickenham is the ideal opportunity to blood players on the fringes of Test selection.
For the players involved there is a lot at stake this weekend. This is a huge chance for these guys to prove themselves at this level, said Woodward at Englands Bagshot training base.
We know all about the established players like Ben Cohen, Josh Lewsey and James Simpson-Daniel. But these guys must now show what they can do in a big game in front of a full house at Twickenham.
This is the first time Ive had the chance to work with people like Paul Sackey, Marcel Garvey, Andy Hazell and Alex Brown who are all knocking on the door.
Our mindset is very clear - we will prepare this team as if we were playing New Zealand or Australia in full Tests. We want to win the match. Its not a festival game for us, its an important fixture.
Mark Regan is the only member of Woodwards triumphant World Cup squad in Sundays line-up while no player in the remainder of the team has hit double figures in international appearances.
Englands lack of experience is in stark contrast to the Barbarians whose initial squad for the three-match tour of Britain numbered a mammoth 1,317 caps and includes seasoned Test veterans such as Taine Randell, Jason Leonard and Brian ODriscoll.
Of course, Woodwards hands have been tied by Saturdays English Premiership and wildcard finals which have prevented Bath, Wasps, Leicester or Sale supplying players for the Barbarians match.
With the senior squad due to leave for the three-Test tour of New Zealand and Australia two days later, the England boss has been reluctant to call on regulars like Trevor Woodman in fear of injury, while the Bordeaux Sevens has narrowed his options further.
Despite the lack of Test regulars, Woodward insists he has picked a talented side which will showcase the depth of English rugby.
Simpson-Daniel could have played but were very excited about watching Marcel Garvey and Paul Sackey on the wings. And there are some players like Jamie Noon who were very close to being picked for the senior tour, he said.
If you take everything into account I think the starting XV is an excellent team. Weve just had a run out today and I was impressed with what I saw. Everyone at the game on Sunday will see a spectacular match.
