Stuart-Smith and Garvey face Barbarians
24 May 2004, 3:42 pm
England boss Sir Clive Woodward has named a 25-man squad for next weekend's non-cap clash against the Barbarians at Twickenham.
Woodwards selection though, has been hugely affected by Premiership play-offs next Saturday, 24 hours before the Barbarians game.

Players from Bath, Wasps, Leicester and Sale Sharks were not considered, while Englands IRB Sevens commitments in Bordeaux also took priority.

Leeds hooker Mark Regan is the solitary member of Woodwards squad to tour New Zealand and Australia next month who has been selected.

But there are opportunities for the likes of England Under-21 skipper Clive Stuart-Smith and wing Marcel Garvey, who is among seven Gloucester players chosen.

Woodward has selected 13 of the England squad named to contest the Churchill Cup in Canada next month, while there are first call-ups for players such as Harlequins prop Jon Dawson and Gloucester full-back Jon Goodridge.

The starting line-up and replacements will be named on Wednesday morning.

The Barbarians opened their three-game tour with a 40-33 victory against Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday, and they play Wales in Bristol on Wednesday night.
