The Scots have not played since their disappointing RBS 6 Nations campaign, which saw them lose all five matches.

Matt Williams side take on Queensland in their first game of the tour a week before tackling Samoa in their first Test on June 4.

However, Murray insists they have worked hard in training and are confident of a morale-boosting win against the Barbarians.

He said: Winning is our goal but we want to go out there against the Barbarians and play well.

We have based a lot of our game on defence and we have been working really hard on that and hopefully we will get the tour off on the right foot.

We are bringing in a lot of new stuff to our game and there are a lot of new guys coming in so we are just trying to get all the calls right and get everyone on the right page.

The boys that have come in have slipped in straight away and some of the training sessions we have had have been the best we have had for a long time. We just want to play well and hopefully a win will come from that.

We have never beaten them so there is a lot of pressure on us but we just want the guys to relax, play rugby and take the ball forward."

And Murray has urged Scotlands supporters to remain loyal to the team because he believes the future is bright.

The lock admits he is excited by the emergence of several youngsters, such as scrum-half Chris Cusiter.

He said: All the guys are massively proud to play for Scotland and they are keen that the fans keep believing in them.

Its going to be a long road but we are definitely going to get there, knowing what young lads are coming through.

They are stronger, fitter and faster than I was when I was a young fella so we just urge them to keep supporting us because we will get there.

Meanwhile, stand-off Chris Paterson will make his fifth performance against the Barbarians on Saturday.

Paterson believes Scotlands performance in their 37-16 defeat by Ireland in their final RBS 6 Nations game was much improved and he sees plenty to build on.

And the versatile Edinburgh Rugby player insists they are trying to cut out the costly mistakes that led to them picking up the wooden spoon.

He said: Our best performance was against Ireland and there are certain positives we can take from that.

This is the start of the tour and we will keep the things that we did well and change the things we did poorly."
