Edinburgh trio net new deals
23 April 2004, 12:51 pm
Edinburgh Gunners have re-signed three key forwards as they prepare for another European Cup assault next season.
Scotland internationals Scott Murray and Allister Hogg plus Alastair Kellock have signed new contracts with the club.

Back-row Hogg played in all Scotlands RBS 6 Nations matches this season and has joined lock Kellock in committing himself to the club.

Murray returned north of the border from Saracens in 2002 and became the 16th Scot to reach 50 caps before the World Cup last year.

The 28-year-old was also one of three Scotland players to be selected for the Lions tour of Australia three years ago.

After helping the Gunners to the Heineken Cup quarter-finals this season, the lock is determined to enjoy further success with the professional team.

Murray said: Since returning to Edinburgh, my time playing for the Gunners has been fantastic.

There is a great sense of team spirit and determination here and I'm looking forward to continuing to be part of that over the next two years.

Hogg and Kellock have both signed deals covering the next three years to the delight of both players.

I joined the Gunners last season and since then I have had a great time, said Hogg.

It has been a steep learning curve for me, but I have had all the support and encouragement Ive needed. Im looking forward to returning next season.

Kellock added: There is a fantastic sense of team spirit at Edinburgh Rugby and its a great feeling to be part of that."

I think I speak for everyone when I say we will all be working hard next season to ensure we push Edinburgh as a force to be reckoned with; something that I am looking forward to being part of.

Scottish Rugby Union chief executive Phil Anderton insists the new deal for Murray is proof that the restructuring of players contracts can work in Scotland.

He said: There has been speculation in the media recently regarding the restructuring of players' contracts.

Yes, a restructuring process is in place as we want to reward the players for their performance and for winning for Scotland and their professional teams.

The fact that a player of such international calibre as Scott Murray has endorsed this restructuring by signing a further two year deal is a positive step toward the future success of Scottish rugby and we are delighted that Scott has chosen to stay with Edinburgh Rugby.
