Italian rugby supremo Giancarlo Dondi wants to a new deal for Azzurri coach John Kirwan.
The side avoided the wooden spoon in this seasons RBS 6 Nations for the second successive year after defeating Scotland.
Italian Rugby Federation president Dondi admitted he was pleased with his sides overall showing in the tournament.
I believe this Six Nations was a good one for us," said Dondi.
"We left the Scottish at the bottom of the standings with the wooden spoon, and this of course was our first aim.
In my point of view all the players played well but Sergio Parisse has impressed me a lot and I think he will have a bright future.
However, Dondi is aware that there is still much to improve on, especially after seeing Italy suffer a 44-10 mauling at the hands of the Welsh on the final day.
We lost a great occasion against the Irish in Dublin and the last game against the Welsh was a bit of a shambles, maybe we undervalued them, he added.
Dondi believes that for Italy to go on and get better in the future, reaching a deal with Kirwan was important.
The former All Black last week said he could walk away from the job if the IRF did not show their faith in him and offer him a long-term contract.
For John Kirwan we will decide on April 29 in the meeting of the Federal Council, Dondi added.
The aim from both parts is to agree a contract which will take us together to the 2007 World Cup.
We have already listened to his plans (Kirwan) so in a few weeks we will know what will happen.
