Italian hooker Fabio Ongaro is rated doubtful ahead of Saturday's RBS 6 Nations encounter against Wales at the Millennium stadium.
The Benetton Treviso player picked up a knee injury during last weekend's game against Ireland which ended 19-3 in favour of Eddie O'Sullivan's men.
The 26-year-old, who scored Italy's only try so far in the competition against Scotland earlier this month, has been a crucial player in John Kirwan's outfit.
His injury has led to a call-up for Leonessa Brescia number two Stefano Saviozzi, who joined with the team on Monday.
Saviozzi has 11 caps for the senior national team and made his last international appearance in September 2002 in a World Cup qualifying game against Spain.
Italy, who are training in Dublin in preparation for the last game of the competition against Wales, will travel to Cardiff on Wednesday.
