Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan is backing his side to overcome the loss of star forward Paul O'Connell for Saturday's RBS 6 Nations clash with Italy.
OConnell has failed to recover from the bruised ribs he picked up during the dramatic 19-13 victory over England two weeks ago, leaving the Irish without one of the championships form players.
A series of top-drawer displays during the World Cup catapulted OConnell into the limelight, earning him a spot in many observers tournament XV, and he has delivered more of the same in the RBS 6 Nations.
His absence is certainly a mighty blow but OSullivan believes he has a quality replacement in Donncha OCallaghan and reckons Gary Longwell will provide ideal back-up from the bench.
He said: Its a loss obviously because Paul is on top of his game at the moment, and we cant pretend otherwise.
But were very fortunate to have someone like Donncha who can step into the team and Gary to come in as substitute.
We have an abundance of riches in our back five. Its always disappointing to lose a player on the eve of a Test match but I dont see it affecting the team overall. There will be no fall-out from it.
Ireland still have a slim chance of winning the RBS 6 Nations - should England beat France in the championships final match the destiny of the title could be decided by points difference.
England and France have already banked a sackful of points so a heavy defeat of Italy is crucial if the Irish are to put an end to the traditional Anglo-French stranglehold on the tournament.
But OSullivan insists amassing a cricket score against the Azzurri is not on the agenda thanks to the improvement shown by John Kirwans men in recent years.
Ive never seen Italy as whipping boys. They beat Scotland comfortably and turned Wales over last year. If you dont prepare properly to meet them then youre in real trouble, he said.
