Lawrence Dallaglio has stressed England must concentrate 100% on what is happening on the field if they are to survive a difficult transitional period following the Rugby World Cup triumph.
Englands 22-match home winning run was ended by RBS 6 Nations rivals Ireland and they now have a quick chance to get back on the winning trail in front of their home fans against Wales.
But captain Dallaglio warned that it is crucial to focus fully on the game.
Dallaglio admitted: With the tag of world champions there are always going to be distractions.
Some have got nothing to do with you and some are of your own doing but what you have to do is limit the amount of distractions you create yourself.
Life as world champions, life as a team to be shot at, is different to how it was before and there is no doubt that since November there have been huge distractions for everyone, and some players have coped with that better than others.
Sir Clive Woodward has kept faith with his squad in the wake of the defeat by Ireland but Dallaglio knows that there could be a heavy price to be paid for another slip-up.
All I can say from past experience is that players who allow their standards to slip dont spend a lot of time here, he said.
Thats the way it goes and Im sure the players are very much aware of that.
