France focused on Scots clash
17 March 2004, 10:44 am
France coach Bernard Laporte insists his side are giving little thought to the potential RBS 6 Nations showdown against England and remain entirely focused on Sunday's clash with Scotland.
Les Bleus have become the Grand Slam favourites after winning their first three matches against Ireland (35-17), Italy (25-0) and Wales (29-22) while defending champions England were dealt a major blow with defeat against the Irish on March 6.

France travel to Murrayfield this weekend to face a struggling Scotland side without a win in this year's competition and then welcome Sir Clive Woodward's world champions to the Stade de France on March 27 for a mouth-watering encounter.

Laporte's side will be eager to not only clinch the RBS 6 Nations crown with victory over England, but also avenge the World Cup semi-final defeat in November.

But the French boss refuses to look too far ahead.

We dont talk about England because this is not the priority, he said.

Our clash with them on March 27 will only have some sort of value if we win in Scotland.

The Scots will be motivated because they dont want to finish the tournament with the wooden spoon and we will also be determined because we want to win the Six Nations.

When France won their last Grand Slam in 2002 they had also faced the Scottish side in their penultimate match.

This is difficult to compare, Laporte added.

This is a different context with different players. But once again it was important for us to win.

We will welcome England more positively if we beat Scotland at Murrayfield.

French team manager Jo Maso echoed Laporte's sentiments.

There is no need to focus on the France v England match, he said.

We are not interested in it and we dont talk about it with the players.

Its never easy to win in Edinburgh and we will travel there with a lot of respect and in a bid to continue our progression in the tournament.
