Simon Danielli believes Scotland will need to hold off an early Italian onslaught to stand any chance of gaining a much-needed victory in Rome.
Matt Williams side have started the RBS 6 Nations Championship in disappointing fashion, losing to Wales and England.
But 24-year-old Bath wing Danielli is confident Scotland can break their duck against the Azzurri.
He said: I think the first 20 minutes are going to be massive. Italy are really big guys and big hitters, so physically weve got to match them in all aspects of the game.
Theyre playing at home and seemingly theyve targeted this match for a while as one that they can win.
So theyre going to come out firing and well have to stop them and put the pressure back on them.
We cant get any more fired up than we were against the English and weve just got to replicate that and make sure we carry it on in Rome.
Danielli is adamant the spirit in the camp is still high despite the poor start to the campaign, saying: The mood amongst the boys is pretty good. There was a real good buzz in the squad during training and were just looking forward to the game now.
The confidence does gets knocked a little when youre losing but we can take a little bit of heart from certain aspects of the game against England, especially in defence and the fact that we did threaten their line.
England are world champions and if you can threaten them then hopefully we can threaten Italy as well.
But the performance is a key indicator of how were progressing so were looking forward to improving upon the Wales and England games and hopefully that will mean that well get a win in Rome.
Hopefully playing well and winning will go hand in hand.
