Hinshelwood: No extra pressure
5 March 2004, 10:58 am
Scotland full-back Ben Hinshelwood insists there is no extra pressure to beat Italy in this season's RBS 6 Nations Championships.
Worcester player Hinshelwood will win his 12th cap as Scotland go looking for their first victory in the tournament.

But although many fans are anticipating success, Hinshelwood insists he is expecting nothing more than a battle.

He said: Theres pressure on every game and this is no different. We go out to win each game so theres pressure all the time.

We put the pressure on ourselves and what we have to do is the things that were coached to do and well take it from there.

All the teams in this tournament are physical but its going to be difficult away from home. Were pretty evenly rated so its going to be a tough game for both sides.

The Italians are all very tough, strong and physical guys and we know were going to come off that field bruised and battered but hopefully we will have played well.

The Italians are a very passionate crowd so were going to have to be at our best to win but were just looking to our performance to make sure that we do everything right and then hopefully the win will take care of itself.

Scotland have yet to get off the mark in terms of points after their first two games against Wales and England but Hinshelwood insists improving their discipline could be the key to beating the Italians.

He said: Weve got a game plan and we change things about but theres been nothing major.

We just want to improve every game. We did it against England, now we have to do it against Italy.

Weve talked about discipline and not conceding penalties and its an important part of any sides game plan. Weve got to keep that discipline and make sure our defence is good.

We were good against England in that respect and we have to carry that on over to Italy but its going to be a lot harder away from home with different officials and things like that.

But this is a long-term thing and we have a long road ahead of us. Its always difficult when you have new coaches and new players but if we improve in each game then well be doing very well.
