Week Three
3 March 2004, 2:40 pm
The match against Wales is going to be an essential test for France. After two average matches against Ireland and Italy in the 2004 tournament the French team needs reassurance and a confidence-boosting tie like this one, especially with the England final coming up.
The Welsh created a huge surprise at the World Cup with their excellent performances. It seems they are gradually becoming one of the best teams in the world again.

And this is certainly not good at all for France to travel to the Millennium Stadium just after Wales were defeated by Ireland. They are set to make some changes in terms of players and tactics, not to mention the revenge spirit that will motivate them all.

This is a young team and there is every chance this clash will be a tough one for Bernard Laporte's men. If we win, this will not be an easy one.

If we lose this would be a huge setback and the end of our ambitions in this year's tournament as the main objective is to walk into the Stade de France against England on March 27 with four consecutives victories in our hands.

It is true that we showed weaknesses in our first two clashes, this time we have to rediscover our discipline and concentration.

(Christophe) Dominici's missed try against Italy clearly reflected that France missing some key attitudes of concentration and commitment.

But the team remains more or less the same and we can count on a certain continuity.

If we manage to refind our strength from 2002 when we won the Grand Slam, the French team will be invincible again. Whether this will happen against Wales on Sunday, this is another story.
